Anxiety and Depression Treatment

Anxiety is a very common issue and most people feel anxious at some times. However, having anxiety on most days for 6 months or longer is not normal and may be “generalized anxiety disorder” or another type anxiety disorder such as a panic disorder or phobia.  Symptoms may include feeling very worried, trouble sleeping, forgetfulness, muscle tension and other symptoms.  Our award winning NYC primary care physicians are trained to investigate these symptoms and diagnose these issues.

Once a diagnosis is made, one of several anxiety treatments may be recommended including psychotherapy, medications or both.  Anxiety is very common and can be a sensitive issue. Treatments can take time in instances and different medications may need to be attempted.  The optimal course of treatment needs to be geared toward your specific symptoms and situation after a comprehensive evaluation by one of our primary care or internal medicine physicians.

Depression is a disorder that makes you said but is different than normal sadness and makes it difficult to complete everyday tasks. Depressed people feel down most of the time for at least 2 weeks and have at least one of the following 2 symptoms:

  1. They no longer enjoy or care about doing things they used to like
  2. They feel sad, down or hopeless most of the day, every day. Depression may also cause changes in sleep habits, energy, weight loss or gain, restlessness, forgetfulness, suicidal thoughts and other symptoms. If you think you might be depressed, see your doctor right away.
See someone right away if you want to hurt or kill yourself!
If you ever feel like you might hurt yourself or someone else, do one of these things:

. Call your doctor or nurse and tell them it is urgent

Treatments may include medications that relieve depression, counseling or both.
